They maintained sporadic contact with each other through Lily’s years at Hogwarts, but were never really close again. Occupation: Order of the Phoenix. Throwing herself so whole-heartedly into her work with the Order, she never had time to pursue another career. Residence: She shares a home with James in Godric’s Hollow. Appearance: Lily is always described as a “very pretty” girl. Brilliant green eyes contrast with her pale skin and fiery red hair. She is slender, and moves with a fluid willowy grace. Her hair is usually pulled back from her face, favoring functionality over style most of the time. The same is true of her wardrobe, and she is equally comfortable with muggle blouses and simple wizarding robes. Personality: The Sorting Hat had a dreadful time sorting Lily Evans. She had all the traits of a Ravenclaw, studious and resourceful. She was a serious student, diligent and inquisitive. After an agonizing few minutes, during which a young Professor McGonagall began to wonder if the old Sorting Hat had finally gone senile, the Gryffindor aspects of young Lily's personality finally won. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, and uses her considerable intelligence and magical prowess to preserve what she believes is right and true. She’s got an adventurous streak, and is always open to trying new things. She’s got a mischievous streak and an infectious laugh. She is open and friendly with new people, and something about her inspires trust. She’s a loyal and devoted friend, and fiercely defends her chums even in the face of humiliation. She’s a good sport about being teased, and it takes a great deal to make her hold a grudge. She’s a romantic at heart, but hid it behind a wall of bemused cynicism until James finally won her over 7th year. History Early Life: Lily was born the younger of two daughters to John and Rose Evans. Her older sister Petunia absolutely loved having a little sister to play with, and the two adored each other and were practically inseparable as children. They balanced each other nicely, Petunia’s protectiveness and Lily’s adventuresome natures managed to work fairly well. Until one day, a strange neighborhood boy called Severus Snape told them both about magic. Petunia couldn’t understand it and reacted with fear, but Lily was fascinated. She was overjoyed when she received her Hogwarts letter, and Petunia devastated. The two were never close after that. Hogwarts Years: Lily had a knack for adaptation, and settled smoothly into wizarding life at Hogwarts. She was sorted into Gryffindor, where she befriended fellow book lover Remus Lupin, and quickly made herself known as one of the cleverest witches in her year. One of her best subjects was Potions, and early on became a favorite of Potions professor Horace Slughorn. She stayed friends with Severus Snape, though he’d been sorted into Slytherin, and often defended him from the antics of the Marauders until the end of their fifth year. When it became clear that Snape now valued blood-purity over their friendship, she was crushed. That same summer her father was killed in an accident in the drill bit factory where he worked. Lily was devastated. One of her biggest regrets was that he never got to see her practice magic. Though there were initial worries that they wouldn’t have enough money to send Lily back to Hogwarts in the fall, the firm came through with a settlement that was enough to send her back to complete her education. Sixth year was a yearlong battle of wills between Lily Evans and James Potter, a war that was vicious, and often amusing to passerby. It was a relief to all when they were named Head Boy and Girl 7th year, and started dating soon after. Post Hogwarts: After graduating from Hogwarts, Lily joined the Order of the Phoenix with her boyfriend and his close friends Sirius, Remus, and Peter. James and Lily married quietly the next summer, and their son Harry was born on July 30, 1980. Through the course of their work with the Order, Lily and James defied Voldemort three times. When they heard about Sibyll Trelawney’s prophecy in the fall of 1981, they went into hiding. What is their last memory and why have they returned at their particular age?: Lily is brought back to the night of her death. She is twenty-one, scared out of her mind, and ready to die to protect her young son. She has never felt anything in her life as strongly as that surge of determination right as she stepped between Voldemort and Harry. Each person who returns from the dead using the magic of the resurrection stone must have a reason to come back. Not only would the character want to return, they must be needed by someone for something. Why have they been brought back? Who wanted them to return? Why? Lily’s need to be with her family has tied her to Harry throughout his life, but it was James that ultimately brought her back. How does your character feel about the post-war world? Lily is quite open to the idea of integration, but thinks that everything should be done in moderation, and that there should be a more definite plan before blundering into a mistake. She thinks the treatment of Death Eaters is cruel and excessive, and feels that there are many chilling parallels between the current Ministry actions, and the persecution she once faced. | |||||||||
